Stone. Winter. Hymn

@Flamm Arts Festival

Upstairs @89 Fore Street, Redruth / 21-22 October 2023

A new installation, created specifically for the inaugural FLAMM event. The work sought to capture the fleeting imprint of a visit to Redruth Methodist Chapel, currently closed to the public and awaiting refurbishment.

It played with the faint melody of a half-remembered hymn and was recorded on an old church piano before being split into 12 threads. 12 recycled and borrowed CD players contained a single of these threads, with audiences invited to play as many or all in any order. There was no right or wrong sequence - each listening unique to the listener and never replicated.

“So refreshing to be able to interact with the the installation… a really valuable, meditative space”

“Truly mesmerising concept. Also brilliant fun to play around with”

“Feels like a shared memory. It’s a very touching work”.
